Hi Everyone,
For Week Two of the course my partner, Josh, and I recorded a short scripted introduction to our children’s literature podcast called In the Midst: A Kid’s Lit Podcast. It ended up a little choppy and awkward (even beyond our forced awkwardness to try to be funny) but whose first attempt isn’t awkward?
But really, please let me know, because I need to harness their skills and learn their powers.
The background music I used is “Korok Forest” by Mikel and GameChops. (We’re both Legend of Zelda fans, so zelda-inspired tunes under a Creative Commons license is *chef’s kiss*!)
Transcript:
Jennifer: Hey! Welcome to In the Midst: A Kid’s Lit Podcast, where two neurodivergent nerds discuss all things middle grade literature. I’m Jennifer Slagus, a PhD student that likes long walks on the beach, hyper-fixating on eating an entire can of chickpeas for every meal, and reading books meant for 8 year olds. [clears throat] uh, and my co-host is…
Josh: Me! Josh Palange. Middle grade children’s author on the autism spectrum by day, curmudgeon-y old man by like mid-day. I don’t know know, I like to go to bed early.
Jennifer: We’re excited to forge this space where we can center middle grade literature and the underrepresented 8-12-year-old reader. We’ll chat about some of our most…
Josh: …and least…
Jennifer: …favorite middle grade books,
Josh: throw some shade if warranted,
Jennifer: and laugh at some really dumb jokes.
Josh: In each episode of this first season, we’ll break down the themes, keywords, and concepts that live in popular middle grade books.
Jennifer: Topics like the OwnVoices hashtag, representation, and identity, to name a few.
Josh: We’re excited you’re here…and honestly kinda surprised…how’d you even find this podcast?
Jennifer: Alright, alright… let’s get…
